A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
