Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
