James, 40, signed a new contract with the Lakers in June of this year and is poised to be the initial competitor to compete across 23 individual campaigns.
Sciatica is a pain in the sciatic region that travels down the spine and through the leg.
The athlete has not taken part in preseason and was out for the games against the Warriors and the Suns earlier this month as a result of the sciatic problem.
The veteran is expected to be sidelined for each of the five of the LA Lakers' games in the month of October, including the first game against the Warriors.
LeBron James, the league's top scorer, has not missed before the start of the season in his two-decade-plus career.
His tally of over 1,500 matches participated in is just 50 short than overtaking former Boston star Parish's league record.
The four-time NBA champion appeared in seventy of the Lakers' 82 games last term and competed in 71 matches in the previous year.
In the most recent campaign, the player posted 24.4 points per game, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game per game and finished sixth in the MVP vote.
LA reached the play-offs in 2024-25 but were defeated four games to one against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.
