Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the team's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight season.
And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.
Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
However the former Luton manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a fresh head coach.
Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
