Star Denies Anti-Vax Views After Voicing Contentious Covid Feature
The "Taken" star has lent his voice to a recent film that challenges the safety of vaccines and commends one-time health official RFK Jr.
The Film's Disputed Foundation
Titled "Plague of Corruption," the project is based on a bestselling book published by a controversial scientist, who became famous during the health crisis for claims that Covid was a result of a bad strain of the flu vaccine.
The book's collaborator, a producer, has also written books with far-right media personality the Infowars host. The producer recently posted hailing Neeson's participation in the project.
An Unequivocal Rebuttal
The team of Neeson have released a response strongly denying suggestions that he holds anti-vax views.
"Many recognize that corruption might be present within the pharmaceutical industry, but that cannot be confused with being against vaccines," the comment reads. "Neeson is not, and remains not, anti-vax. His considerable work with the UN children's agency reinforces his enduring support for public-health initiatives."
The response noted that the star was not involved in crafting the documentary's messaging and that questions about its claims ought to go to the filmmakers.
Major Assertions In the Film
In the film, the voiceover provided by Neeson makes several strong points:
- It states that pro-immunization voices have demanded "blind obedience" to government bodies.
- It argues that "science has become dangerously influenced by politics."
- Kennedy is shown stating, "The big problem with vaccines is that they are not properly vetted."
- The narration further attacks stay-at-home orders, saying they caused severe distress that resulted in thousands of lives.
- On the topic of the immunizations, it cites a perspective that they were "rushed to market" and seen as "risky trials."
Historical Context and Recent Debates
The film includes a historical film about clinical trials on children, which was subsequently the topic of a BBC apology by the corporation for editorial breaches.
Recently, Kennedy instructed the Centers for Disease Control to change its longstanding position that there is no causal relationship between vaccines and autism. This claim is repeated in the documentary, contrary to a new report from the global health body confirming no such link has been found.
A Previous Position of Support
Differing from the film's narrative, Neeson has in the past shown strong support for vaccines in his position as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
In 2022, he called vaccines as "an incredible human success story," noting that "The conversation about vaccines in lately has forgotten how much good they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in our history."
The documentary finishes with Neeson's voice saying, "This is not the finish of our story. It is the start of a different phase."
