The former Liverpool manager says coming back to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “No longing for management; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, though he denied the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident with his brother in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. No one within the club might employ it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
