The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad has only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
