The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
